“Moscow” Cinema is located not far frome the Republic Square, at the intersection of Tumanyan and Abovyan streets.
With its main facade Cinema Moscow opens to a small square, named after Charles Aznavour, decorated with a bowl fountain with the signs of the zodiac. There are various metal statues made from junk parts in this Square.
This is the first double-hall movie theatre in the country built in the mid 30’s. The interiors of Cinema “Moscow” have recently undergone renovation, violating the author’s plan, however the facades decorated with natural stones of Armenia – gray basalt and pale yellow tuff, stressing the elements of composition – express the author’s interpretation accumulated with national architectural experience.
From the side of Abovyan street, the first floor of the building is settled in the form of lodge, behind which is a shop. Golden Tulip Yerevan Hotel (architect N. Buniatyan) completes formation of the semi-circular of Aznavour Square.
The building architecture immediately reminds of classicism, adjoined to which is located the Exhibition Hall of the Union of Painters (architect R. Israelyan). Successful composition solution of this building creates a holistic impression of the architectural ensemble of the square and the street Abovyan. In the first floor of the hotel is a shop of souvenirs and perfumes.
