Hovhannes Sharambeyan Folk Arts and Crafts Center is located at the beginning of one of the main streets of Yerevan called Abovyan.
This is a unique cultural center where you can find unique works of national arts and crafts.
There are bells above the entrance to the center: it is believed that they ward off evil spirits.
You will immediately feel at home in this museum, because it is not a classical one. It is a typical Armenian house with carpets, embroidered tablecloths and silver utensils.
In the lobby of the center there is a souvenir shop. Here you can buy the analogues of the museum exhibits if you like.
On the ground floor the temporary exhibition hall is located as well as the hall of the Armenian carpets and the corner of the Armenian everyday-life with all of its attributes. In the carpets’ hall you can find not only carpets of different styles and sizes, but a loom, threads, and other tools by which the carpets are being created. Armenian carpet weaving has got deep historical roots; it is an integral part of the Armenian culture.
In ancient times it was believed that hanging a carpet with sacral signs on the wall protects the family from danger.
In other rooms of the museum you can find amazing works from silver and wood. All these items have practical value, and today they can be used in everyday life.
But this is not the end. You will find something truly incredible in this center. There is something that one cannot see without a microscope. Miniatures by Eduard Ghazaryan created on hair and threads that can be seen only through a microscope or strong magnifying glass. The artist was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records for creating such a miracle. Master has created more than 1,000 miniatures. You can learn about his life and work in details in the museum
Unfortunately, not all the works of Ghazarian are available in the center. A large part of his work is spread in different parts of the world. He has even presented to Bill Clinton the portrait of the latter, it was curved on a half of a rice grain.
The cost of a ticket to the museum is 500 AMD (about $ 1.5) and guide services in foreign languages are 2,500 AMD (about $ 7). The center is open every day except Sundays.
