Monument to Tigran Petrosian 

 
 
The monument to the great Armenian chess player, the 9th World Champion of Chess Tigran Petrosian was opened in Yerevan on July 7 of 2006. The monument is located in the street named after Tigran Petrosian, in the metropolitan community Davidashen. The opening ceremony was attended by the president of chess federation of Armenia, and the president of Republic of Armenia Serj Sargsyan. Serj Sarkisian has offered the right to open the monument to members of the Armenian chess players, who have brilliantly won the 37th World Chess Olympiad in Turin. 
 
The author of the monument is the sculptor Norayr Kagranyan. "It is thanks to Tigran Petrosian that chess in Armenia started to develop. Thanks to him, in every house, every yard men began to grasp the basics of the game," - Serj Sargsyan said. The monument to Tigran Petrosian has become the world's first monument to a chess player.

Travel Armenia: Vernissage 

 

Not far from the Opera and Ballet House, in a small square, where the monument of the world famous painter Martiros Saryan is depicted, contemporary Armenian artists and painters exhibit their works for sale and for public view. In the weekend the square turns into a real open-air gallery, a peculiar centre for contemporary art and culture. 

 
Here, at Vernisage, you can just walk and admire the paintings of modern masters, meet and talk to the painters, express your opinion on this or that work of art, buy the painting you like or just order a new one be it a portrait, landscape or a still life.

Travel Armenia: Museum of Russian Art 

Aram Abrahamyan, a hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, holder of the Orders of Lenin, the October Revolution, an honored scientist, a brilliant surgeon and clinician and a professor, had gathered a remarkable collection of Russian painting, graphics, and scenery of late XIX and early XX centuries, most of which he gave to Armenia. 
 
Thanks to the generosity of Aram Abrahamyan and his wife Mary Abrahamyan, the Museum of Russian Art was established in Yerevan, where the works of more than 120 artists present are uniquely remarkable period of Russian art - a period that defined the development of Russian culture in general. 
 

One of the vivid representatives of this period is, of course, Konstantin Korovin, a brilliant representative of Russian impressionism. Special moist air of his paintings, fine casual appearance of his heroines have exceptional charm.

Gladzor University

 
Gladzor University, one of the most famous centers of education in medieval Armenia, is located on a picturesque plateau five kilometers north of Yeghegnadzor. The educational center was founded more than seven centuries ago. Time has not done fair to the once beautiful work of architecture.  Now only traces of the foundations remain here. A small museum, established in the Church of St. Hagop of Vernashen village can familiarize you with the university.
 
Gladzor University was established in early 1280-ies by the scholar and teacher Nerses Mshetsi in a modest monastery of Tanahat.  Discipline, long accepted in the higher schools of medieval Armenia had been taught in the university. Stadies lasted from seven to eight years.
